Thumbs up FINALLY! an XDM that REALLY works in Vista

I tried PuTTY - It worked, but has limited functionality.
I tried Cygwin/X - It's not there yet.

One of the users at work had requested that we look into a utility to provide faster access to Unix using X11 - He indicated that he had heard good things about NoMachine NX. I didn't get the task at work, but I did follow up for use at home and WOW - does it ever work great.

The links are below:
http://fedoranews.org/contributors/rick_stout/freenx/
http://www.nomachine.com/download.php

NOTE that the top link is for Fedora, BUT - I'm running CentOS 5 for my Linux base and all that was necessary was:

# Make sure you are up-to-date
yum update

# Install FreeNX and all dependencies
yum install freenx

The second link will take you to a site for the client side which you install on your Windows Vista computer. The top link provides some hints for configuring the client, but they are little fuzzy in places. Their description for importing THE key is misleading. I found that there is a key file in /etc/nxserver/client.id_dsa.key on the Linux host. Where they say import and save, I found it would only work if you do not import, but cut and paste then save.

After your all done, you hav and XDM running for your Linux computer in Windows Vista.

WITHOUT the hastle of installing and configuring SSH
WITHOUT the hastle of working around Vista network security
WITHOUT the limitations of programs like PuTTY

AND IT'S FREE
