How to uninstall media player?

Windows media player is choppy and makes
streaming videos online look more like a slide
show than a video. Sometimes they just lock
up and stop.

I'd like to try to unistall media player, but it
is not in the programs list in Control Panel
in Vista Basic. Does this mean I cannot
get rid of it at all, let alone uninstall and
reinstall it?

Windows Media Player is shipped with Windows (and that means any version of Windows except the 'N' editions), it is not possible to uninstall Windows Media Player or Internet explorer 7 in the programs and features section, for more information take a look here.

This wont uninstall Media Player, it will just stop showing it in the start menu, sorry You can do the same thing with IE7, but it doesn't uninstall either. The best way to stop Media Player is to change the defaults for each extension.

Or, perhaps, just disable it in Default Programs.
