I think I am pretty much alone IMO, but I think you may be lucky if you don't get it installed. What do you hope it will do for you?

I don't think the newer release will download using the .cmd hack. The best bet is to download it from the links provided by Snuffy.

If you had any of the prior SP1 installed you have to uninstall them first.

Some times you have to use the Manual check for updates...?
Some times you have to REBOOT after you change the Registry?
are you using the most current reg change?
most current key is "37d55f36-65d6-4fe4-9dc7-892fcbe6222b"
did you insure there are NO EXTRA SPACES which are added when things are posted to this forum.... such as. sample:
currentversion\windowsupda te\ should actually read: currentversion\windowsupdate]

You can also try this: Click Windows Update and wait for the "No new updates..." message to pop-up and then click the 'Check for updates' link from the left pane.

Been doing some reading, and depends on your system but any version of SP1 seems to need between 7 and 12 GB FREE SPACE on the HD which is being updated.[quote]Installing the service pack will require a large amount

of free disk space (7 GB for x86 and 12 GB for x64).
However, most of this space will be reclaimed after installation.[quote]
Have you defragged your HD ?
Quote:
Windows Vista SP1 will support the following delivery methods: Express. Requires an Internet connection but minimizes the size of the download by sending only the
changes needed for a specific computer (approximately 50 MB for x86-based operating systems). Stand-alone. Recommended for computers with limited Internet connectivity and for applying the service
pack to multiple computers. The download size is larger than the express package, but customers can
apply a single package to any Windows Vista version and language combination (within a platform).
Distribution tools like System Center Configuration Manager 2007 use stand-alone packages to deploy
Windows Vista SP1. Slipstream. The slipstream version of Windows Vista SP1 is media that already contains the service
pack, which companies can use to deploy the operating system to new computers or to upgrade existing
computers. Availability will be limited. Microsoft will update Windows Vista retail media with Windows
Vista SP1 slipstream media in the future. Slipstream media will also be available to Volume Licensing
customers.
For express and stand-alone deployment methods, Microsoft recommends the following: Laptops must be plugged in to an AC power source. A minimum of 7 GB free disk space on the system partition for x86-based operating systems and a
minimum of 12 GB free disk space for x64-based operating systems. The stand-alone deployment method requires administrative credentials.
Have you ran the newest compatibility checker? or Upgrade Advisor?
You might also have to remove/disable your Firewall, and AV.
unplug all your USB devices..?
Hope you can get this version to install... it looks like it it actually 98% of what the final will be...

Standalone version link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...ng=en#filelist

The clue is Unsigned Driver. See if you have any DRIVERS installed that are BETA for sound or video or monitor... make sure every driver you have is signed or (WDDM). Other wise I have no clue... MS is very closed mouth on assistance on this matter... unless you can give me more info. Sorry, but many people get this error, and the best is UNSIGNED DRIVERS...

Some errors are really STUPID..shame on MicroSoft

More research on the SP1 not installing.... have also found the same error can mean that Windows Defender failed one the upgrades...not sure why.. several have corrected the Install problem by
1. Disable Windows Defender.
2. locate the upgrade manually and install.
3. you might chec your c:\windows\softwaredistribution\reporting events and see what errors it gives you and if it tells you what KB failed, and What the KB was for...({670A587B-4E53-4E0E-974A-FE0430858620} 2007-12-14 11:43:14:670-0600 1 148 101 {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} 0 80072ee2 AutomaticUpdates Failure Software Synchronization Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80072ee2.) This error is generated by Kodac failure to install upgrade for the Photo Printer. ( I had manually installed the upgrade).

Another good MS site to read :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941
Reference when I crashed, I did not reinstall my WSUS Beta program.. and since my system is registered with it... the error... to many times I think PHONE HOME gets too much info... and that screws thing up.
PS: I manually corrected the problem and manually installed the required update my self...
