| Vista Business and Excel 2003 I am having a peculiar problem - trying to make excel 2003 work on windows vista. i can open old excel files but cannot create new ones. the excel shuts down automatically. the same happens when i try to open two old excel files. i have downloaded and installed all available updates from vista site. thre results are the same. I have also run a detect and repair from excel 2003 menu - still no success. Please advice a solution. |

| Welcome. And, I am sorry, but I have no definitive solution for you. I have never had a problem with Excel 2003 on any version of Vista including, of course, many betas. I suggest completely reinstalling Office/Excel. Good luck.

| I recall having this issue with Excel 2003 in XP Home. Or at least a similar issue. I tried a reinstall of Office, but about that time black goo started oozing out the power socket of my old laptop. That was the end of said laptop, so I am not sure that helped. Just pointing out that I am not sure it is a Vista specific issue. Which may or may not actually help anyone. |

| I have found that Office 2003 has more problems with Vista than one would think... but Office XP does not have all the problems.. DOH Reason Office 2003 and Office 2007 are not compatible ... YOU CAN NOT UPGRADE FROM 2003 TO 2007. Office XP and Office 2007 are... YOU CAN UPGRADE XP TO 2007... Yes, MS has way of making you buy new software... Sorry for the bad news...
