Zonealarm (beta) for Vista

Has anyone else here got Zonealarm for Vista and experiencing slow connections after installation?
Even when I've shutdown ZA my internet is still really slow and my CPU usage is much higher than normal.

Are you talking about the beta? I decided not to install it because, as I recall, there were some problems with uninstalling it. If you uninstall, then please let us know if you have a problem. Thanks.

Well..I've uninstalled it with no problems! (I know it didn't take long, for that to happen )
So glad to get rid of it, I knew it was in beta but it was just so bad, it really slowed down my connection, every webpage was taking 30 seconds to load and when I go to shutdown ZA it crashes. Even then it still slows down my connection so I had to reboot and get it off my system.

Well at least my internet is back to normal. Yay!

I would not recommend this beta version of ZoneAlarm for Vista to anyone unless you have the patience of a saint...or just wait until a stabler version is available.

Thanks Wiggles. I am very interested in your observations. I only want a firewall for outgoing, but I have pretty much decided that, with UAC on, I don't really need one.

Fair enough. But I can't stand UAC myself.

At first I thought I couldn't stand UAC, but once everything was installed I came to feel that it is not all that obtrusive. Just a few clicks to be a fair-amount safer.

If you ran Linux any length of time, dealing with UAC wouldn't bother you as much (though I have yet to figure out why I need an admin p/w to move an desktop program icon into my Programs folder, lol).

I never did like ZA that much. I had problems with the True Vector engine not getting along with other programs and at one time I had to reinstall my sound drivers after installing ZA for some reason. Last few years I have been running various security suites (Avira, Trend Micro, F-Secure, and now Norton) and using their firewalls for protection.
