esata to sata adapter

I am thinking of upgrading my AMD system to a E8400 45mm cpu and the P5K mobo but I need 5 sata slots and the P5K only has 4 sata slots internal but it has a esata slot internal could i use this slot for my 3rd hard drive with out any issues.

esata is the same conector as sata isnt it? i think so anyway but if it is then there will be no issues and esata just means external sata for a sata slot on the back of your pc case for things like an external sata hdd

Thats what I thought myself but in the bios will it see the drive that would be the only issues. I am reading on some other sites that say they will not work without a controller card that are in the external enclosure ,which i am not sure of at this point ,in other words, they say just plugging in a esata cable to sata drive will not work ,so why do they put one on the inside of the computer on the board on the P5K Asus for example.

My understanding is yes, but I have never done it.

Well we will know next week some time because I ordered the E8400 and the P5k to replace the M2NSLI Deluxe and the AMD 5000+ (going up for sale on e-bay) which is alright but not up to snuff for me the P5K C2D 6750 2.6 is way crisper and about 18 seconds faster on the 1m in super-pi which made up my mind for the upgrade, i am thing about raid for this build but not sure I need it for the media center pc build this is going to replace. The E8400 is getting good reviews and is very overclockable but i think i will leave it stock. I ordered the esata to sata cable with the other parts. Thanks Znod weather is quit nice for the time of year.

M2NSLI Deluxe to P5k E8400 swap went well did a back up before swapping and removed any drivers in the device manager I could that did not pertain to the new Intel P5K mobo and first boot went well except had to start in safe mode to get drivers for usb for the cordless keyboard and mouse to work than went to boot had to reset the screen resolution and install the motherboard drivers lots of hard drive activity but all went well except my tv tuner card shows up in device manager but it is not working. I had to reactivate windows but went through with out a hitch no problem. This E8400 has no temp problems like some were saying with stuck sensors running crisp and cool idle 23-24 probe real temp core 0 27c core 1 24c have to cycle the arctic silver a couple of times mother board is running 27c it a cool day with case temps at 21.5 c. Does 1M super-pi in 15.784 s or 16k in .707s real pleased with the upgrade. Vista is much better at changing mobo than XP ever was in the past had to many new install well we will see how stable it is in a couple of days. Thats my story.

I am thinking of a case change up to a Coolermaster 690 its got lots of room and its has the PS in the bottom which I like in a case. My P-182 has the PS in the bottom so its a chance i will take I like the looks of the Coolermaster 690. Just did a stress test for 30 minutes and in the probe2 temp never went over 38c full cpu use . Going to shut down and reset the tv tuner card to see if that helps but it shows in the device manager so it is something small i hope.

Good luck. You don't want a tuner issue again.

You are welcome. I understood. I was just thinking back to your earlier tuner issues.

Yes I was took it all apart looked at tuner cleaned contacts with contact cleaner and put back in had the same problem tried to open Media player no go new the issue was more than a tuner it was the difference in the AMD platform to intel and a clean install did the fix. Very happy with the 45mm chip no need to overclock at 3 gig. Think I am going for the 690 case.
