| modem help have a new Dell Inspiron lap top and tryin to hook up AT&T dsl but the computer won't recognize the modem. I know I have everything connected right. Is there a way to test ethernet port,or any other suggestions apreciated. Thanks ahead I turned off all fire walls,too :newbie: |

| :welcome: The firewall isn't an issue. When you connect it does it light up at all? Do you get any sounds or bubbles to suggest you have connected something? Have you installed the drivers before connecting the modem as the manual states? Do you have a driver? If you don't have a driver do you know where to get one from? Lots of questions! crabby |

| No problem Go into Control Panel and check in the device manager whether the modem is shown correctly under network adapters. If it is there and it doesn't have a funny exclaimation mark etc, then you probably just need so sort out your username and password. To do that go to Control Panel and Network Connections and double click the icon which relates to the modem. You'll then be asked to put in your connection details and you should then be connected. If it isn't showing up in Device Manager then you probably need to use that disk first. If it has a funny icon then double click it and it should tell you what the icon indicates. | THank you. I'm at work now ,but will update later. ATT is sending a install disc,overnight On break/lunch(12:20). checked device mngt, its not there. have to wait for disc. Thank you for your help |
