| NORTON - Screwed up my System Restore Norton preinstalled Vista Home Premium - Dell desktop. So about 5 or 6 weeks ago, I get this different pop-up on bottom right of screen stating that I needed to download some Norton patch/software/update/or something. Not the normal updates that always occur. This was different. So I downloaded this. And thought nothing of it. Computer ran fine. Norton ran fine. Until . . . . I needed to do a System Restore. Bingo. Nada. Nope. Windows comes up and states: "System Restore did not complete sucessfully. Your computer system files and settings were not changed. An unspecified error occured during System Restore". Repeated attempts at System Restore provided same results. So I go to Symantec Norton IM support. The nice gentleman from India or the Philippiines states to me that this has nothing to do with Norton. To contact Dell Support. Well . . . I unistalled Norton, ran a few days without Norton, created a few Restore Points . . . then reinstalled Norton. Problem fixed. System Restore now does operate correctly. I got 18 'free' Norton with this computer and I will use this 'free' until expiration. Yes there is AVAST and AVG and McAfee (with AOL) free. I am just disappointed with Norton Customer Service and Norton in general. Anyone who visits Norton website will find it difficult to find an address or a 'contact us' other than India. What are they hiding? I think that this will be my last 'purchase' or any Symantic Product or Norton product. |

| Well Norton often gets poor reviews and l often leaves bad customer experiences. With such a poor rep, its perhaps suprising a lot of PC mfrs still supply it on thier machines. £$ talks I suppose.... |

| When I had the problem with Norton 2007 and I switched to Vista I went with Symantec Corporate edition 10.2 on 4 systems it runs weekly, daily and monthly for a full scan and its checks mail plus it has auto protect. Much better than any Norton 2007 product or even 2005 which I used for years with XP. AVG was also a good free virus software when I used XP not sure how it is with Vista.

| My wife just got a new HP Desktop with 15 months of free Norton. The first thing I did was uninstall Norton. Then, I installed Avast (free) and Commodo BOClean (for malware--free). Personally, I would not leave Norton anything on a machine of mine. You never know what problem it will cause next. Just hope you can uninstall it, whenever you so decide, without a problem. I say the sooner the better.

| Problem solved. Mulltiple email/IM contacts with Norton Support (India or wherever). Told to uninstall Norton then install Norton. Did solve problem. Unnecessary hassle though. It WAS Norton that caused the problem. Anyway, I get a telephone call from India (or wherever) and they provide me with one more free month of Norton. Computer came with Norton for 18 months. |
