Ripping to Music Foler

I am in the process of ripping about 600 CD's to my media system computer, and I never realized there were so many ripping software on the market. Originally I was just using the WMP 11 ,and trying to get the best quality on the computer. Now i see software like EAC, Lame ,dbpoweramp cd ripper and the list can go on and on , and now you have the formats WAV,WMA, Flac, MP4,MP3 etc any body have any info on the matter.r As of ight now I have some of a little of each but, would like to just use one and that is that. I was ripping with WMP lossless and then realized my Creative Zen V plus will not read those files, so it was back to WAV ,and they take up a lot of hard drive space, but I have lots of space. I was listening to different formats,, and to the human ear,I cannot tell which is better but I know one thing ripping to mp3 take's a hell of a lot of less HD space. Well that is my question. Thanks I should mention this is playing thought a Pioneer AV amp into monitor 10B Polk speakers and JBL and Bose speaker's with a HT Striker sound card in the computer, so i have good quality hardware for this endeavor.

For ease, I'd just use iTunes and rip at 192. Many use, as you know, what appears to be better software. And, perhaps the result are better if you know just how to tweak everything--which I don't. I doubt that I'd be able to tell the difference anyway. So, I am an iTuney. If you want a hobby, then go with the "good" software. If you want to get it done efficiently, well, and without a lot of fuss, then go iTunes.

I have never used i tunes because I have always had Creative MP3 players and the software they came with or WMP does itunes have format options like all the others plus I have just read there are some issues with the newest version of itunes. Yes, it has good format options. But, given your new membership, you'll be doing advanced things very quickly and probably leaving iTunes in the dust.

Yes I purchased the dbpoweramp Power Pack and MP3 version for $18.00 and it works great you can convert any format just about into any other format you like. Plus it rips in an accurate state which I do not understand just yet, but i will learn. This has a lot of setting I have yet to hit on, it even set an offset for the optical drive you use. By the way haven't heard much more about the new owner been hitting the other Vista forums myself that I belong to.

Hi am. I knew it--that you become a ripping hobbiest sort of like Jack the Ripper. I'll be keeping track of your adventures and will know who to come to for expert advice (soon). I have a suggestion. You know how I like to test. And, you know how skeptical I am of seat of the pants measurement with nothing to compare to on a timely basis. So, what do you think about ripping your music with your new stuff? But, also ripping some comparison pieces using my 192 MP3 suggestion on iTunes. I'd love to here your judgments about how the two compare on your soundsystem. If you have two dvd drives, then your might even be able to A-B your rips as you progress through the tracks.

I am playing with WMP 11 and Creative Media 5 Player plus FooBar2000 which is open source and very plain, but good sound quality, but you have to just about program it to do everything, has a very large learning experience. I will download itunes player but which one should I try the newest one. I do have two optical drives the Samsung 203B &N models the one N has Light scribe and is the faster and quieter of the two but they are real quit compared to my Lite-on optical drives have to install the new 250 Gig SE 16 YS model and the Zalman 9500A HSF tomorrow while i am waiting for my RMA APC model to come. The 750G Model has problems with USB losing connection. I used to be able to tell better years ago before my ears got older like when i went from plain old speaker wire to the three strain monster cable on my Polk 10B monitor speakers and it made a difference in the lows and highs believe it or not and other people heard it back then also, we would even hook and unhook the wires to see the difference.

Yep, I used to do a lot of that stuff too. It was fun listening for differences. I A-B'ed the heck out of the first dolby--the Advent--and the 33 rpms, themselves. It was very hard to tell the difference.

Just PM'ed you with a link to my skydrive it may work and it may not but the three different formats are there itunes 192 mp3 then Lame and wave i cannot tell the difference by the ear and I had them all playing at the same time in almost perfect sync. It fun i do not care that much for itunes but if I started using it years ago i would probably like it today but I use Creative and WMP11 now for years but the FooBar 2000 is a no frill open source player. Like I said the dbpoweramp ripper has all kind of features for accuracy and error correction and offset for the drives it is really technical. I just had my Wife listen to them at loud volume and she said what are you crazy they all sound the same , and I said the WAVE should should be better because of the lossless and the difference in size of the rip.

Hey, great comparo. I got the PM. Thanks. Your results are what I expected. But, yes, there are at least some technical superiorities in the advanced ripper. And, right, I have used iTunes for years and, thus, am very familiar with it. By the way, I once convinced myself (again) of something ridiculous. What's the big time Apple format? I can't remember, but it yields huge files vis a vis MP3s. Anyway, I convinced myself that if I rippped using that format and then converted the results to MP3s, then I got superior M3s. How about one more test?

Do you mean Apple Lossless and if that it i can do that with the same song and then convert it to Mp3 the other itunes one is Mp4 which is suppose to be very good but it will not play on my mp3 and you see the difference in the size of the files but what do you do ripping the only advantage is if you rip at wave you have an exact copy just like the cd and then you have a play form to convert to mp3 with out loss of quality. I will post the other one on the same skydrive if the other s worked all right for you. IU have to shut this system down for about an hour got my new Zalman 9500 and the 250 hd to install won't take me long to do it will post back later. Nobody else interest on these boards in music I guess Vista problems keeps then occupied.

Znod I just uploaded the other two music files to my skydrive and the covert from the mp4 which is apple lossless to Lame mp3 sound a little muddy or different to me check it out just got to this took longetr than I figured to get the upgrades completed plus had to start and cool down and restart to cure the new artic silver 5. running cool and quit now 29c with a bunch of thing going on.

Cool. I remember the format now it's AIFF. Try burning your test tunes in AIFF and then converting them to MP3s using iTunes. That's the process I used.

AIFF is a very popular one also the only thing is you would get the same equality as ripping from a cd from AIFF to mp3 the way i read it. That is a codex i just installed today and I will try it later and post on the skydrive. I did one today and it was really muffled or just dull compared to wave or the others. Check this read out.
