Sleep Mode

Hi Everyone,

My operating system is Vista Home Premium and my computer is an HP pavilion dv2500.

I'm not sure if I have a software or hardware problem but when my computer goes into the sleep mode, it gets totally locked up with a blank screen. In order to get back into operation, I need to pull out the power cord and remove the battery.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Bob:newbie:

First, make sure your BIOS is setup correctly. There are three suspend modes by the BIOS: S1 – power to PC stays on; S3 – power is turned off after the info of the PC goes to memory (choose this setting); S1 & S3 – system decides delay time before shutting power off.

The other issue might be the Motherboard BIOS itself. You may want to check with HP and see if there’s a BIOS update for your PC. If you go to the HP website, you’ll find out how to verify if the PC has the latest BIOS and/or if there are any updates.

A graphics card could cause this type of issues, but more time than not, the PC fails to go on standby. However, you can try rolling back the driver and see if the issue goes away. Select the graphics card from device manager to roll back the driver.
