wow, you are at the minimum of what Vista needs to run.
yes, increase your ram to 1GB, then change the video card to at least 128mb. or
install Vista Basic...

requirements for BASIC Vista:
Quote:
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

512 MB of system memory

20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory

DVD-ROM drive

Audio Output
requirements for all other versions of Vista"

1. The one thing that I can see you can do is upgrade your RAM. Though Vista minimum requirements is 512MB, it's not enough. Ram does makes a huge difference.

2. Run Diskcleanup and Defrag utilities often; you can do that when the system is idle.

3. Change your Visual Effect to Best Performance. Right click Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > Under Performance select Settings > Select Adjust for best performance > Apply > OK to exit

4. Change Page file size to at least three times the amount of your RAM or more. Right click Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > Under Performance select Settings > Advanced tab > Under Virtual Memory click Change > De-select Automatically manage paging file size for this drive > click Custom Size > Enter the amount you want to allocate to both Initial Size and Maximum size (Note: Enter same amount for both) > click Set and OK (You may have to restart your PC)

Sorry Snnuffy, I didn't notice your reply

Good, but just like I and Snuffy mentioned, upgrading your RAM will make a huge difference.

One more thing, if you do update your RAM, change your Visual setting to what it was before or Let Windows choose what's best for my computer. You'll get better graphics.

That would never happen according to Microsoft. There are theories of course, but no one knows for sure.

I find that my desktop is consistently slower when I let Windows choose what is best than when I select best appearance. I would get an Optimized (or Enhanced, whichever) for Vista flash drive rather than use a card. Even fairly large flash drives are inexpensive now. But, as others have said, more RAM is a better idea. My experience is that defragging excessively can slow a machine down as compared to defragging only when the fragmentation percentage is allowed to increase to a point. While this observation does not make much sense on the surface, I only degrag when I suspect that a performance degradation has occurred and my fragmentation percent is "high." I don't have a ready guideline for when it is too high--maybe 15 to 20 %.

If you uninstall the FLASH drive wrong,(simply pulling it out) it does have the ability to shorten the life span... bur normally it should have very little effect...also simply pulling the flash drive out can have serious effects on your computer.

Question MVP's interested in that info.

could you post the reply, reason I ask is I know of at least two MS MVP that would like to know who told you that...and in what reference they told you.
I mentioned I'd ask you to post the Email or at sent to me (PM) with what ever removed to protect your privacy..and with your permission forward to them.

Thanks
