How do I Join a Domain?

I can not seem to join a Domain?
I can see the domain and I can get to files on my server...
But I'm not authenticating, Vista just sees the domain and My username and password let me get to the files...
How do I adjust settings to allow my Vista Machine to join my Server 2003 Domain?

More info

I have a Server/Client network; several XPpro boxes, connected to Server 2003.
Normally I just go to controll panel, (on the Client) System, System Properties and either use the wizard by clicking the Network Id button,
Or, click the Change... button. In the window select the radio button for Domain, fill in the domain name, click OK then enter a user name and Password of an account with permission to join the domain and click OK again.

At That point I get an error message that reads;

"An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain."

Make sure that you have setup the TCP/IP settings on the client computer, or what I would suggest is you set them to DHCP and on the server create a DHCP Pool. when this has done DONT FORGET TO AUTHORIZE the scope else it wont dish out IP's. now you have done this setup up the DNS Server and create pointer records that point client machine at the server and router etc... Now go back into DHCP Management console and set the DNS setting to the IP address of the server and also a secondary for the Router/Gateway. Now turn on the client machine, and join the domain once you have an IP Lease from the server.
