To restart Vista you need to open the menu NEXT to the power button in the start menu and select it.

| you do not have to change anything use option d. called RESTART. Or explain what you actually want... restart or awake or what... reference your pic it shows the 6 options.. what else do you really need or help me understand ... what your asking.

I restart all the time. When it asks me what I want to do I want it to come up with restart not sleep. In XP it always had restart as default.

Is this a Laptop or Desktop? what is the brand of your system? what do you do that it asks you what to do? Are you asking about how to change power options? I'm sorry but for some reason I am not understanding exactly what you want to do or change.

When you go to that shutdown menu it comes up with sleep as the default option and not restart. You want to change the default to restart. I do not know how to make it the default for that list, but I know how to change the button in the start menu to it. Go to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Power Buttons and Lid -> Start Menu Power Button. Then change the setting as you wish Hope this helps. crabby

Thnak you for your imput. I guess I am one of the few that when they shut down they dont want it to go to sleep they want it to restart. I will just leave it as it is and change each time. There must be a reason they went from restart in 95,98 and xp to sleep in Vista.
