Can't transfer Photos

I have several programs that I use for transferring Photos. I have checked and they are all Vista compatible/certified, etc. (ACDSee, Photoshop, Bridge, BackUp & Burn, PowerDesk). Whenever I try to transfer photos from my card to my PC, I get an error message: Incorrect Function, Not accessible. I can transfer using Windows Photo Gallery so I suspect that it is a setting in my Registry which is barring other programs from doing the transfers. Anyone know what it is and how to fix it?

I personally don't believe that a registry setting is the issue, but someone here may suggest a registry setting. I suspect there's a driver issue. Although Windows Photo Gallery can read from the card reader, Vista is having difficulties using the driver command to communicate with the the other photo programs.

Try and run the programs as administrator and post if it still occurs.

Every program I use to transfer or send photos required that I REMOVE the XP drivers, and install Vista Drivers... basically I found that I only needed one Vista driver that delt with 3rd party programs to make them all work.
I used the KODAK Vista driver... (note: during Vista Beta, manytimes simply upgrading XP drivers to Vista drivers failed... REMOVEAL of XP drivers and then Installing Vista Drivers solved all the problems...).

Hope this helps...

Running the programs as an Administrator did not solve it.

The card reader is a Firewire one and quite old. I tried updating the drivers but it said the one it was using was the best.

So, I tried another card reader. This one is USB and it worked fine. Now, I prefer the speed of the Firewire. Most card readers do not come with drivers; they use the Windows native drivers so if I buy a newer Reader, won't it still use the same driver and therefore, I'll have the same problem?

Not necesarily...usually a newer card reader or hardware, comes with better written and compatible drivers.

Firewire and Vista many times do not see EYE to EYE...

There are many Firewire - Vista problems. The links I have found on Not working with NO SOLUTIONS are GROSS..
