| Dual Boot and subsequent deletion of XP Hey guys I had XP installed for quite a while, however I purchased Vista during the middle of 2007 and installed it on a separate drive and ran a dual boot. I am now satisfied that Vista is working enough for me to ditch XP, however I found that when I deleted XP, I could no longer boot into Vista due to various booting errors. So I had to re-install XP and play about with fixing the boot files with VistaBootPro and using my Vista DVD in repair mode. I suspect that XP was the system drive and so the boot files were on there when I deleted. What I want to know is, if there is any way I can get rid of XP and still be able to boot into Vista? many thanks in advance Andy |

| I have never tried eliminating the XP component of a dual boot as you would like to do. So, I can't help directly. But, here is a read that may give you the insights needed to answer your own question: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919529.

| hey thanks for the help znod. I ended up deleting the xp partition via fdisk in dos and then booted up with the Vista DVD and repaired the boot setup. Seems to have worked nicely  |

| it seems even though XP no longer exists, that drive is still the system drive and the repair function decided to put the necessary boot files onto that drive. So if I ever want to remove that drive I'd have to re-install Vista from scratch I think. Well with the full release of SP1 on the way soon I'll probably do a fresh install anyway, so I suppose it's not so bad. |
