| Format before SP1 My machine has not been running the way it used to. I cant uninstall ie7 in vista like in XP. I use reg cleaners and always get rid of my junk. I just did a repair using the disk, it seems better but I wont know for sure for a while. Will SP1 fix all when I install it or will it keep all the old junk? |

| SP1, in my guestimation won't do anything but install itself. Personally, I won't be installing SP1 before it gets a very clean bill of health. Even then, I won't intall it unless it is likely to do something significant in ehancing my observable performance or becomes required for something I want to do. Assuming your machine continues to perform pretty much as you want, I would not go to the trouble of clean installing before installing SP21. SP1 sounds of little benefit to me--probably a minus overall for me. Go here: SP1. And, for those who install Vista updates automatically (never me; I don't install many of them--even the security updates), we have the: Vista Service-Pack Blocker.

what do you mean junk...lots of things are junk to me that might not be junk to you... I ask how can a repair of XP or Vista help with removal of JUNK? Reg cleaners remove bad entries from the Registry and should make things boot faster... they do not CLEAN JUNK from the computer. I ask please be more specific on JUNK? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vista SP1 RC version does for Vista what Vista should have been to start with...my own personal opinion... Vista SP1 SCREAMS compare XP SP3 like a Chey Corvair to a (Vista SP1) Shelby Mustang GT or the 2008 Steve McQueen Model. My compare Moved a 4.16 GB file via SATA II drives XP SP3 "4m 6s", Vista SP1 "1m 35s".

| Junk= Everything "CC cleaner" "Spybot" and "Adaware" deletes. After time your regestry just gets bad and a Format makes it like new again. I install and delete programs all the time and nothing seesm to help it after a while. My internet explorer is not acting correct. Cant right click to copy.. Wont open new window while in Google.. so on. I know time will make the system itself go slower and I accept that. The programs still work though. I need to get my explorer to work like Firefox. I would use Firefox all the time if it worked with all my sites. Ford does not support Firefox. Quote:

I have used Firefox for years and years. I decided to try IE on my new laptop. I like it a lot. It took a while figure our how to do exactly what I wanted, but I have it set to mimic exactly what I generally do using Firefox--including use of the "Bookmarks Tollbar Folder."

Vista Manager has an excellent junk file cleaner, also System Mechanic has a very good junk file cleaner.... I tested CCleaner and found it lacking in JUNK File removing.... I ran system cleaner and removed over 1000 files after the other person cleaned with CCleaner... Thursday I removed over 5000 such files from one system and it cut the boot time from 5m to 1m55s...

| Good luck. Now that I know about your freezes then I would have suggested a clean install. SP1 is not at all likely to cure freezes. RC1 is not the final. Gold/RTM will be the final, although I am not sure if it will be labeled RTM. Check this link out: Technet on SP1 RC1. Maybe you still have time not to install RC1. I wouldn't; not even the gold version, but I already said that.

I dont know anything about this stuff. Does it expire? (YES in 1 Year) If you do not like SP1 RC1 then you can simply uninstall it and any of the Prep files. It was a prep file... Yes, in all my posts about the prior versions, you can find that your system might need 2 or 3 different Prep files. You also might have to wait 3 to 5 min between Prep files You might have to wait 15 min for the final SP1. Quote:
I have installed, & tested 3 different versions of SP1, I have enjoyed all 3. I have also uninstalled all 3 so that I could install the next version. I also do a complete BACKUP of 1. RTM 2. ea version of SP1 so that I could easly go back to either version. The only error I made was Flashing my BIOS and let the electricity go off, and screw up the bios... which screwed up everything.
