Info on installing vista with sp1 over vista without sp1

I currently have Vista Ultimate without the SP1. I used the windows update and standalone SP1 update and each time it has failed, failed so much that i had to boot the Vista DVD and reinstall over the current Vista. I noticed that when i reinstall over the current Vista all my programs still work. So i was wondering if i get a Vista Ultimate DVD with SP1 slipstreamed with it, would i be able to reinstall vista with SP1 over my current non SP1 Vista?

IF i am not, i am just going to do a clean install of 64-bit Vista then. THanks gUyz

I would suggest trying to intall SP1 through Windows Update before trying that... I don't really know if that will work, but to try it you should use a 'Repair' installation.

But really do try and update through Windows update first! What is the actual issue you get with SP1 installation? And if you are going to do it with the standalone have you tried downloading it again?
