Unique BOOTMGR problem I had to whipe a Vista Home install for work to use their system but when I tried to re-install Vista and it said "BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" I have put in my recovery DVD's from HP again, but it doesnt have a recovery option, just a Re-install one. All the turtorials I can find rely on a Vista recovery DVD. Note the recovery partition is gone. 1. How do I access this repair part of the DVD? Is it on the HP bundled disks? 2. If not how do I work around this. I'm not very technical. I have 3 disks that came with the HP bundle. System recovery 1&2 and a Supplimetal Recovery.

If you do a re-install your recovery partition will re-appear as the manufactures created it part of the installation disc

It's a simple problem. Your bios is booting straight to your hard drive and bipassing the CD drive. Just change it in your bios and you'll be fine. crabby

The reason you were able to get it up and running after installing ubuntu is because the ubuntu bootmanager (grub) can detect bootmanagers on other drives and so allows you to select your operating systems from the boot partition of one drive. You did not need to install ubuntu to get vista to work, you simply had to redirect your bios to be to the correct harddrive. crabby
