windows disc used to repair windows vista

The windows repair has been running for at least 5 hours and still hasn't finished . Is this normal?

No, it's not normal. If you are running this utility I must assume you were trying to correct an issue. You might try to post your issue here and see if we can help.

Reinstalling Win Vista for orig disc that came with Dell computer

the install does fine and then locks up at the level that says completing install, it has been at that point for about an hour. The bar at the bottom of screen shows no advance. The hard drive lihgt is not showing any movement. Please email me at beckyvon@ec.rr.com. Thank you.

Sorry couldn't get back to you sooner. Your issue is probably related to a driver. The first thing you should do is to disconnect any non-essential hardware from your PC, including any USB attached hardware. All you are require to have for installation is your hard drive, monitor, graphics card, DVD Player, mouse and keybord. If that doesn't work, go into the BIOS and disable any non-essential feature; e.g. serial ports, parallel ports, USB, Firewire. You can always turn them back on once the installation is completed.

If you have a lot of patient, try disconencting one hardware at a time or disabling one feature at a time; this will serve as a troubleshooting process to isolate the culprit driver.

test AutoRun on a floppy disk, this value should be set to 91). ... Windows
Vista offers a control panel applet to configure AutoPlay settings globally
