Worth upgrading or not

Right now I'm running a dual boot system with XP PRO 32bit and Vista Home Premium 64bit. The only reason I keep XP is for some of my older software and games. My question is it worth the upgrade from Vista Home Premium 64bit to Vista Ultimate 64bit? Also which version OEM or Retail and why ? Both of my current versions are OEM at the moment. Thanks for any and all help.

No it is not worth upgrading to Ultimate, I tried it out and trust me there isn't much extra apart from Dreamscene backgrounds.

With Retail (the name speaks for itself) you get Vista in shops at the RRP with all the casing and such.

Now with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) this is the version installed by the computer manufacturers such as Dell, Acer, etc.
You can buy an OEM version which is alot cheaper but if you're only building a PC and will only receive the disc in a plastic wallet and nothing else.

What ever you do don't upgrade to Ultimate its practically the same product as home premium. As Wiggles said you get a couple of useless extras.

I think everyone on this site will tell you the same, but i am one of them that fell for it and at launch i got ultimate. BIG! Mistake

Don't know what MS was thinking, but if they have a sure plan for Vista Ultimate, they better act fast. Telling people how well Ultimate is and then not delivering in its promoise it's just not cool. I'm using Ultimate, because I got it for free or semi-free as I had to work for it, but other than taking more hard drive room than Home Premium, it doesn't justify the higher price.

Completely agree with you there felix, if they start rolling out a few extras out every other month or something like that then Ultimate sales would increase gradually.

With the price difference between Home Premium and Ultimate being quite alot, Microsoft should think about maybe dropping the price for Ultimate as well.

I just removed Ultimate from my PC and installed my Business edition. There are just too much junk with Ultimate. Business edition is boring, but has what I need right now. My oldest daughter wants to try Ultimate in her laptop, let's see how that goes.

Wink

Again ultimate is a waste of Money...

I have Home Premium on my laptops, and from what i see in the US the majority of news adds are pre installed Business, running very close to Home Premium...

The biggest difference between Home Premium and Business edition is Windows Media Center not available with the Business edition. But I'm using Nero, as recommended a while back by Ant, so no big lost there.

Business edition is boring
Nothing wrong with boring if it gets the job done! I use Vista Business as I saw it as the logical upgrade to XP Pro. Dunno if Ultimate is a complete waste of time. However, I cannot see the justifuication myself.

Now Home Basic is a waste of time as it's too limiting.

Well, it's after all the business edition. I'm sure businesses want their employees to do their work and not spend time playing around. I guess one can always activate the games like freecell, hearts, etc. if a break is needed.
