| Knoppix is kinda cool. I've played with it a little. It works really well off the CD. Only problems I had were it couldn't get online. I don't think it recognized my Intel gigabit ethernet chip, and couldn't get the sound to work, but I'm sure if you have a sound card other than an Audigy 2, it would work. Hopefully the new version, v3.6 will fix those issues compared to v3.4. Another live cd you may want to try is SUSE Live CD, which I also liked. |

| I have used Knoppix before, it is pretty fun to play around with especially if you are unsure if you want a linux OS installed on your system. For some reason though, with my current rig it does not boot up I cannot figure out why.

| It boots fine for me (Version 3.4), I can get online easily, and I like the movie viewer! Even the CD Burner works great without installing a thing! My only complaint it that windows can't see the CD very well after it is burned... |

| I tried knoppix and it can be a great recovery tool. Can be bit slow but there is an option to load the OS in RAM ('toram' cheatcode) which make things noticably faster. But the version 3.4 does not recognize the NIC of my P4P800 Dlx. Had no problems with earlier versions. |

| I give Knoppix on a CD to friends and acquaintances when I talk about Linux. Knoppix, as a give-away, is a very good example for newbies, when someone considers himself a Linux missionary. |

| KNOPPIX is great. It probably has the best hardware autodetect script ever! I didn't know that KNOPPIX had an option to run in RAM. I tried that with SLAX and MAN! that's FAST! SLAX is also lots of fun too and it works well for me. |

| I am looking for a Live Cd that can let you move files or deletes files on XP or Windows 2000. And possibly a Live Cd that can write to a flash drive to safe work... Is this asking too much? |

PE Builder is one of the best utilities for MS OSes. It will move or delete Windows XP and 2000 files (and run Ad-aware, McAfee Stinger and even burn files using Nero). I'm not sure if it can write to flash drives but if you can find a "single executable" program that can do it, it can be incorporated into your PE Builder build.

Anyways last I checked it was a really bad idea to write to or delete files in XP or 2k. If you make fat32 partitions your in the clear. I think the NTFS driver is still extremely unstable. I have heard its safe to write to a file as long as you dont change the file size. Wouldnt mess with it still though. Most distros will read NTFS np (both slax and knoppix). Dont format your flash drive as NTFS. Again, make it fat32 and your in the clear. Both Slax and Knoppix support this (most other live distros should too). You can even boot off it if your bios supports it. You asked for more infos on slax a while ago. Well its small enough to fit on a mini-CD yet will do most everything Knoppix will do. Its slackware based! Slackware is THE BEST Linux distro! Because its so much smaller it tends to run faster. The down side is its not going to have ALL the best apps because Tomas wants to keep it small enough to fit on a small CD. Slax however is modular meaning you can add functionality if you want (or ask someone else to do it). Tomas has documented this and other aspects of Slax very well. I did see a few days ago there are a few other versions of Slax comming out with specific tools such as a hacking tools version and such like that.
