Re: Don't feel like getting VISTAed ...

13 reasons why Linux should be on your desktop

"Of the distros designed for users who're not up to command line acrobatics, SimplyMepis impressed me the most. It crept up on me over time, since it's not as showy as Mandriva or as fast as LinuxMint or as well-upholstered as Novell's SLED. The install is swift and well-done, the partitioning as clear as a spring day, and hardware recognition automatic. The apps are a well-judged collection, and everything else is where you'd expect to find it."

New Linux Mint 4.0 review

Re: Don't feel like getting VISTAed ...

I liked Mepis but I've stuck with Ubuntu and gnome for the last year. I think I'll download the new release and install it on a spare hdd. Do you see much difference with it being based on etch?

Re: Don't feel like getting VISTAed ...

I have not installed the final yet, I hope to get to it over the holidays.

I have been running Linux Mint 4 since it came out last month and I like it.
I really like the look of gnome ...

However, Mepis updated it's look from RC2 to the final after pressure from the community.

I'll be seeding it until the end of the day.

Re: Don't feel like getting VISTAed ...

There is no anthropomorphized anime girl version of MEPIS and therefore it cannot be considered.

Yeah it's creepy. There's tons of them on the 'net.

Although some of the items on the list have relatively little value besides lengthening the list or are not strictly true, it is a long list and it does include a lot of important points. Let me add for those who have not used Linux that the list applies to most current distributions (versions) of Linux, not just Ubuntu.

Re: Don't feel like getting VISTAed ...

Many of the things on that list are equally true for OSX as it is for Linux.
Like Macs don't need defragging either.
