Linux boot. Exchange Ubuntu with Suse.

Hello everyone

I have Linux installed on one of my rigs for quite some time now, but I haven't been using it a lot. I consider myself a noob as far as Linux is concerned.

Recently my HD crashed and I bought a new 320GB. So I decided to install 3 operating systems. WinXP, Suse and Ubuntu Linux.

The installation for all of them, except for a few bumps which were easily solved was uneventful.

I installed first Suse and then Ubuntu. My problem is that the program that allows you to choose which os to boot with, is the one that Ubuntu installed.
To tell you the truth I don't like it because it is in text mode.

I know it sounds childish, but I prefer the one that Suse has, because it's graphical. Does anyone know if there is a way to replace the program (I don't remember the name.. GRUB ?) that Ubuntu has installed with the Suse One?

Thank you all in advance

I assume that you installed GRUB into the MBR and I also assume that Ubuntu was the last OS you installed.

Make a copy of the current grub.lst, it does list all the OS that are bootable.

Next you need to clean the mbr from grub, you can do this with a WXP bootdisk or int WXP recovery console, boot into a: and then execute fixmbr.
That will erase grub from the MBR.
Now you are only able to boot into Windows, so use the SUSE installation disk to boot into SUSE (it might complain about several missing modules but that is normal if you have updated the kernel.
In SUSE you need to open the YAST, system, boot loader configuration.
Take a close look if all OS are listed, if not your saved grub.lst will come in handy because you can use it as a guidline. If everything is the way you like it, just save it and you should have the SUSE 'Grub' in the MBR.

Good luck

Just because something is safe and simple (may require more time, but doesn´t require extra knowlwedge and care) doesn`t mean it´s stupid.

Greetings
