| Mandriva 2007 Is anyone here using the latest version of Mandriva 2007? How is it and if it's worth installing it? Also, a good source to download it? I know I've tried prior versions and I just don't like the way it modifies the bootrap (or partition) of the primary HD.

| I've been using it for a few months and I'm quite happy about it myself. I'm running it on my second physical harddisk. It hasn't given me a lot of trouble apart from the usual configuration issues, but nothing that can't be overcome. I've had no trouble with any partitions nor with the bootloader. I'm afraid I can't help you to a good source to download it, since I had my cousin download it for me. It shouldn't be too hard to find though. |

| I've used it since it released and have enjoyed it immensely. I've actually switched from it temporarily because I need to refamiliarize myself w/ CentOS since I'm redoing some servers when I get back home from college but I'd say Mandriva 2007 is very good. It installed perfectly on my Dell e1505 laptop.

| You get the most reliable booting if you put Grub in the MBR. Still, regarding Mandriva 2007, I think it is a very good distribution--perhaps the best of the free, open-source distributions available today. Incidentally, if you are interested in using a commercial version (Discovery, Powerpack, etc.) because they include commercial software like LinDVD, proprietary drivers, support, written documentation, etc., I recommend avoiding trying out Mandriva FREE first to "see if you will like it." For some reason, once FREE is on a computer, the commercial versions continue to behave like Mandriva FREE (in my experience anyway), The only simple solution is a reformat and reinstall of all Mandriva Linux partitions. |
