Fesity just got my seal of approval: it installed my GlossyP Window Theme. So now my green scroll bar is back. (Something which was not possible under 6.10).

Oh, happy, happy...

Ok is everyone sitting down?

Good.

I can actually get my Intel 2915ABG wireless card working from a gui manager. Now it's not perfect, for some reason the K network thingy (I'm using Kubuntu, prefer kde) won't autostart the wireless radio and it won't remember the wireless settings BUT it freaking works!! I liked it so much I installed it in a vista/Kubuntu dual boot on the lappy.

So far, so good. Imagine this...me having not one but TWO linux machines AND a mac mini....wow.

How do you find it compared to Mepis ?

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. My linux pc is down while I switch video cards with my daughter. For some reason her 7600gt wouldn't work with a hauppauge tv card so I swapped my x850xt out of my linux setup and i haven't put the 7600gt back in yet.

I don't know about kubuntu, but this works in Gnome:

ctrl-alt-F1

log back on, and type: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

After that I was able to install the nVIDIA driver using the run package from nVIDIA. sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start restarts the display manager. Maybe it is sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop in kubuntu? Hope this helps.

Install wifi-radar with synaptic. It is a much better wireless networking tool than KWiFiManager.

Thanks for the link. I found what i was doing wrong but still no luck. The etc/init.d/kdm stop command gives me a black screen with the Kubuntu logo and a blue bar but it hangs in there. The init 1 command gives me a black screen... just that.. nothing more. Kubuntu doesn't like my pc

I'm not sure what you mean. Is your PC stalled, or are you in command line mode after the stop command? If you can enter command functions, just change directories to where your nVIDIA driver is located, and type
sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run (or sudo sh 'whatever the driver version is'). I didn't have to use the init 1 command to successfully run the nVIDIA driver installation program.
