| Oh wow, Thanks Microsoft! They have just posted a refresh of Windows XP Service Pack 3. So if you are still stuck on XP, by choice or not and you're a tester.. then it's available for download now! This build will be made publicly available soon, but there are 2 points to be aware of troopers! 1. Even though the update packages are the same as RC Refresh, it is referred to simply as Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate, to avoid confusion for people who have not tried these releases before on a private beta. 2. There will be a public forum on TechNet to support that release. If you choose to read or participate on that forum, we ask that you continue to observe your NDA regarding schedule, beta releases, bugs you've logged through the private beta program, or other information you have obtained from the beta program. source: connect.microsoft.com

| The test that I made was: 1. clean install of XP Pro SP2 and the first upgrade via Auto upgrade was 85 installments on first go around ... turned off Auto upgrade. 2. Clean Install of XP Pro SP2 NO AUTO UPGRADED.... Installed SP3... turned on Auto upgrade... and NO UPGRADES WERE NEEDED... ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Clean install of Vista RTM - autoupgrade 1st shot Windows Update Client successfully detected 75 updates. 2. Clean Install of Vista RTM - No autoupgrade - Installed SP1 - Turned on Autoupgrade. No Upgrades. even with manual check.. I do not have the logs for XP SP2-SP3 but Here is the first set from Vista RTM Clean with auto upgrade - Quote:
you will be installing Vista_SP1_En. If you rip your original bootable version of Vista with a good program an slipstream the SP into then re burn you will have a fully bootable version of Vista or XP.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to slipstream is perfectly legal, it is discussed and fully documented on the MS site...with super details, so that most anybody can do it...
