5 good Vista features!

As The Windows SuperSite tells them:

Ok... so my 2 cents on this stuff:

5) Readyboost. Great that people can do it but not useful as most people will want real RAM if they really need the readyboost feature.

4) Intergrated search: Fantastic bit of kit... searches files, programs and everything in between. Properly great!

3) Media Center: Has been done with MCE so can't be called a 'new' Vista feature tbh

2) Photo gallery: Its just a way to view photos! What?!

1) Setup: It's just a snazzy showcase of vista really. Does what it needs to do as with most setups

So to conclude... this guy can blah for the world, but the article is not great reading!

That kind of post is when a blogger has nothing to say and just needs to write "something"..."anything" - just to say he posted.

Ovearall I believe Vista to be a great improvement from WinXP, similar to Win 3.1 to Win 95. The 5 great futures of vista mentioned on the site are improvements from winxp, even the readyboost is just an extension of virtual memory. There are three futures that I'd like to see implemented on an operating system...1. the ability to install it fast, a few minutes. 2. an operating system that comes on as soon as the computer is turn on, not waiting for it to boot up. 3. everything included (antivirus, word porcessor, etc) no more buying or downloading any other software.

The install idea is a good one, however, I would much prefer it the other way! The reason for this is that if an o/s is created from source to match your hardware it will be faster and more secure once you have got it install. As a for instance gentoo linux takes up to 14 hours to install and kicks the crap out of windows performance by around 1/3rd. With the boot issue, that is only possible with the 'sleep' option. This is due to the kernel mainly as it takes time to initialise each piece of hardware. If you can think of a way to make an instant kernel then I'm listening Finally, if you included everything it would cost a fortune and most people wouldnt want to buy it as they wouldnt want everything in the package If you want the ability to customise and download extra programs like the ones you mentioned for free - they are out there (AVG antivirus, OpenOffice etc)

Yes crabby you r correct and don't get me wrong, I like the idea of getting, installing and messing around with software/hardware...that's probably half the fun of owning a pc. But some people, especially business owners, just want their pcs to function without much intervention. I think the boot issue will be solved eventually. Although I have not seen any articles, I did overheard a conversation about ram chips that maintain power when pc is off.
