Is there any way to configure a Hotmail account in Windows Mail?

Hi & welcome.

I could be wrong - but I think you have to subscribe to premium hotmail (non free version) to get access to your email via POP3. I'm pretty sure this was the case previously, but haven't checked out Windows Mail yet.

I would guess that if there's no easy option in the Account setup section of this software to setup hotmail then you will need to get pop3 access details.

Anyone else?

As far as I know, the answer to that (at least so far) is no.

Thanks, that is what I was wondering about, there are only two options: pop3 & smtp.Rgds.

You can use your hotmail email address with windows live mail which run nicely with vista. It's a beta, but works great. My free hotmail mail account within the last years went from 5 MB of space or so to 2 GB. I've been using it ever since I downloaded and istalled vista Beta 2.

Windows Live & Hotmail

2 days ago I started having problems with Windows Live Mail and Hotmail,
suddenly I can not sync hotmail... (I have had to disable sync when loading), reason everytime I opend email, (default was Live Email). it closed my browser and logged an error... - It does not send this error to Microsoft -
but performance goes all to hell... I'm sure this is due to the Server link being wrong..http://mail.services.live.com/Deltas....0.0/sync.aspx
Protocol: HTTPMail, Port 80,Secure(SSL):No, Server Error:204,
Error Number:0x8DE00002... MS simply send me to www.hotmail.com and enter the hidden number and it works for one time...any help appreciated..
(Yes, I have removed the account- rebooted - added back and it still give can not sync..

I had the same issue. I wrote to customer support and after some troubleshooting they suggested removing Windows Live Mail, including all folders and register keys and reinstalling the program.

This did not work at first because I reinstall a copy of Windows Live Desktop I had saved in my PC. So I went ahead and remove everything again, downloaded the updated version from MS site and reinstalled it. That solved the issue.

Concerning Windows Vista Live Mail is the option to stop unwanted junk mail. it doesn't work every time as spammers do change addresses constantly, but it sure does provide relief from the clutter. When a junk mail arrives, one can right click it and get the different options to deal with it. Here are some of the options, also see snip:

Add sender to safe senders list
Add sender's domain (@example.com) to safe senders list
Add sender to blocked senders list
Add sender's domain (@example.com) to blocked senders list

You can choose these options through Windows Vista Live Mail or Live Mail Desktop

If you are going to use the Window Live Mail Desktop Beta make sure you get the most recent build and it should work fine I have been using it for quite a while with no problems in this build but the previous one had a Hotmail issue. I check all my mail account now with it do not use outlook anymore.Build 8.0.1226 is the new one.

Smile DeskTop Live Mail and Live messenger

I have been testing both Mail and Messenger. I use Outlook Express and it works perfect..even tho both are not compatible with Vista ...
Messenger is v8.1.0780.00 and Live Mail is 8.0.1226. bust I like Live Mail is it will check all pop3 mails and hotmail at the same time... special mails (gmail) and it currently is very fast on loading....plus the RSS feeds are great also.
think this time MS is going in the right direction. :scared: :scared: :beta:

added the 1 to .1226
