Exclamation

I'd still take the AMD with bigger HD, less warranty and cheaper price.

If i were you i would go to PC world and get this Core 2 Duo laptop for £599:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5250
1.50GHz, 667MHz, 2MB Cache
Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
2GB Memory
160GB Hard Drive
DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
15.4" Widescreen Display
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
Wireless Enables

If you ask me you should scarp Dell all together for the following reasons:

Delivery charges
(you can pick one up in store in PC world)

VAT charges
(dell all ways give you a good price until the very last moment when you enter debit details and then u get VAT'ed to hell.)

Customer Service
(Known as being one of the worst in the industry, so if it breaks and you cant fix it, your pretty much screwed)

Poor Quality in General
(to be fair i have never had a Dell laptop but we use them in work we have had them just over 3 months and there falling to pieces for no apparent reason, buttons are falling off and they over heat all the time)

Lightbulb Well said and the REASONS WHY ...

Very well said "ANT" but he insist that its a DELL..
But maybe he will listen to your advise... and forget DELL.
I tried on his first post... but it did not work.
I have friends, & relation whom work for DELL, and they can not recommend the products ... to FRIENDS OR RELATION..

I have just been ask to and have spend several hours on NEW DELL systems locally here, that (IMHO) are sub par 1 a NEW VISTA unit with 512 Mb Memory and the other a NEW XP SP2 unit with 256 Mb Memory. Far short of any thing I would recommend..

Ok ok ill look into it Ant have you got link? Also a few questions on it Ant.

Will it run full AERO?

ANWSER- Yes (see below)

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on a Mobile Intel 965GM chipset (for Merom = Core 2 architecture). It is the successor of GMA 950. Most interesting is the integration of a fully programmable pipeline. Due to the integration of DirectX9 features, HDR and Hardware Transform & Lighning (T&L) - predecessor only had Software T&L - should be ready for Windows Vista Premium (support Aero Glass fully). Respective the data, the peformance should be clearly better than GMA 950.

Will it run full AERO well?

ANWSER- Not sure can some1 help plz

How good is a T5250 in comparsion to a P4?

ANWSER- see link (got it as close as I could in comparing) http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=885034,847435&familyID=1&culture=en-US (the P4 is defo correct)

I take it the name means it will burn DVDs and CDs?

ANWSER- Yes I think

Is the screen one of them reflective ones? (aka better than normal LCD?)

ANWSER- I can't tell

Will the inbulit wirless work with my routor?

ANWSER- I cant tell

Exclamation Super Great Search Engine

JoshW02, I'd like to introduce you to a VERY GOOD SEARCH ENGINE.
It beats the AOL search engine 100 to 1. and it beats MS search engine 100 to 2.

It is called GOOGLE... I highly recommend you go to google.com and down it, and install the addon which allows you to make it yoour DEFAULT SEARCH ENGINE>
reason why: I use Google, and when I type the following into google search :
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Aero enabled
the very first entry it gives me is:The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, or GMA, is Intel's current line of graphics .... for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista that enable the Aero graphics. ....

Yep, I agree with Snuffy on that one. I also agree that Dell might not be the best choice. I disagree about Google (but there's long-standing reasons behind that one, that have nothing to do with the thread question).

Josh, get the most you can get for the price you can afford. If there's any ONE thing I'd get before anything else, it's lotsa RAM. Second most important would be video card that supports everything Vista has to offer. Everything after that is gravy, imo.

Follow Dazzlin advice, plus get the one with the large screen 15" instead of 14". Also, most laptops comes with a standard battery, instead, get one with a premium battery. The laptop will run much longer when not connected to an electrical outlet.

thats the one josh! i think its far better value than your dell options, but at the end of the day its your decision. What it all balls down to is what you use your computer for, if you use it for light office/student work you may as well save a few hundred pounds/dollars (for my American friends) and get a lower spec machine and spend the rest on chocolate, beer and one of those cool chairs that have heaters and vibrate.....anyway i know how much of a pain in the backside buying and getting the right machine is, so best of luck and i hope i can help as much as i can.

Also anyone is welcome to get me one of those chairs for Christmas, there only £200!
