Invidia 7900

I have dual BFG 7900 GT cards. I assume that they are Vista compatible. However, the current list was last updated in February.

Smile Compatible Video Cards

According to BFG's website, the 7900 GT is "Built for Microsoft Windows Vista" so you should definately be in the clear. Microsoft has also updated their site to include the NVIDIA 7900 GPU's as well. On that note, an update to the hardware list that is considered Vista-ready follows in the next post.

Do you have the 256MB or 512MB cards? And may I ask what you do with that much video card power? I'm into graphics design, and I'm always looking for the next best card for what I do...though I have to admit, I hadn't gone for dual cards yet. Is that mostly a gaming thing? What monitor do you use?

Did you try downloading the latest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2...le_84.63.html? It might help.

Good to know. Thanks. The one on my new Gateway, which I'll be setting up on Saturday, is a GeForce 7600GS 256MB. The machine is supposed to be Vista Ready (Set, Go). But, assuming it is not directx 10 compatible, I'll be upgrading it soon, I think. I also want more MB.

GeForce 8800 GPUs

This is part of an email I received from NVidia. I'll post it here for those who are thinking about purchaisng a graphic card.

NVIDIA® SLI™-Ready GeForce 8800 graphics processing units (GPUs), the world's first DirectX® 10 GPUs, feature a powerful unified architecture that delivers an incredibly true-to-life gaming experience. Power through games at record speeds. Charge through game maps with vividly realistic, sun-up to sun-down HDR lighting effects. And crank up 16x full-screen anti-aliasing without missing a beat - no jaggies, no worries.

I just recently bought new video cards for two of my Vista machines. They were both EVGA GeForce 7600 GS cards. They work very well for the price (around $100).

I had updated the drivers from the NVidia website to the latest Vista drivers and never had a problem.

Two days ago, I was checking Windows Updates and there was a new driver update (for NVidia GeForce 7600GS) from Microsoft so I installed in onto one of my machines.. MISTAKE!

It doesn't work well at all. Very choppy..

Today, I saw the same update for one of my other machines with the same card and I didn't install it. I hate that when an update is a mistake....

So beware of the new driver. Anyone else install it and not have problems?

I had the same issue with with my Desktop, which has a built-in NVidia graphics card. However, the last time I updated the driver, I first went to the device manager and uninstalled the older driver. Apparently the update supply by MS through Windows Update doesn't do a good job of removing the older driver or it just updates certain files, leaving older files behind.

I didn't think of that Felix. That is probably what I should do on the other one and I should reinstall the early driver on the one that I am complaining about.

Hopefully, if I reinstall the early driver, updates will give me the driver again as an optional.

Thanks....
