|  Question about CPU spike at boot-up. Has anyone else, with the CPU meter on the sidebar noticed a spike in CPU usage, up to 100%, for a quick moment after the GUI loads,a brief spike then it settles down. I have dual-core processor so this surprises me. For about a minute my memory is maxed out too, but I'm pretty sure that's normal because my antivirus is busy,even while everything else is being loaded into RAM. |

| The spike is actually an aberation in the programing of the gadget. There is no spike, its just the gadget 'leveling out'. crabby |

| No problem, I thought the same when I first used it, so I had a look at how the code loaded etc and came to that conclusion. If you want to, try and open up task manager before it loads and see for yourself ( easiest way is to make it run at startup ). Btw, if you use advanced power management features to throttle the CPU it is worth noting that the gadget is inaccurate as it measures to the underclocked speed and not the max. If you are on high performance settings then it's more accurate. I would also point out that there are better ones which you can download that incorporate CPU, RAM, HDD usage with power (shutdown/sleep) functions as well. They all work better and take up less resources than seperate ones. crabby |

| Hi, I had to go right after my last post and just got back. I see you're not here now, but thanks for the info, and my power settings are set to high performance I'll look into others (monitoring apps) too. I heard of one called CPUz, I think. I'm glad I'm not the only one that found it freaky! Also glad to know how to check it out now. |
