Will your current system handle Vista?

Although there are no official hardware requirements yet, Microsoft does mention the following:

"Designed for Windows XP" 32-bit PC systems with Windows XP OS, or

"Designed for Windows XP x64 Edition" 64-bit PC systems with Windows XP x64 Edition OS
with

A modern processor

512MB of system memory or more, and

A graphics processor that will support Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM)

PC systems with GPUs that do not support WDDM will only be able to provide a Windows XP-comparable desktop graphics experience, with regards to features, stability and performance.

Do you think your PC will be able to handle Vista?

It appears so. I need to check my laptop out though. I only have 512 megs of ram on my laptop, so maybe it will need more memory.

As for my desktop I am going to upgrade it in the next 6-9 months, but it passes now.

Basically... I play games, so yes my PC can handle Vista many times over!

However, I would note that you will not get the same experience when it is released! Either it will be highly optimised and run fantastic, or they will decide that average PCs are better by then and add more junk. Who knows!

my PC seems to be working fine in Vista

here are my specs

P4 3.0E Ghz @ 3.6 GHz
1 GB DDR400 ram
BFG 7800 GS AGP
120 Gig Seagate Barracuda Drive

it even seems to be working very well in games also, after i do the little performance fix (check my post in the tips section) games work just as well as they did in XP

Bored at work so have decided to post my system;

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ @ 3.6GHz
2 GB DDR400 RAM
Radeon 9800 pro 256mb agp @ 430:370
Maxtor 20GB 7200rpm drive
Seagate 60GB 7200rpm drive
Samsung 250GB 7200rpm drive
2x Western digital 300GB 7200rpm drive RAID
Creative X-Fi sound card with Logitech MX5500 speakers
Proview 17" TFT
Samsung 19" TFT

Everything runs fine. I have vista installed on the Seagate drive and so I know its performance isnt that swell at the moment (Will move it to the RAID at some point).

Infact do you guys know how the PERFORMANCE RATING works? I'll fill you in...

Your performance rating is only as high as your worst piece of hardware. I found this out by installing a newer build which lists the performance of each piece of hardware seperately in the system section. Therefore my performance rating is 3 because my lowest rated hardware is my hard drive @ 3.7! The rest rank from 4.6 upwards. I think this is a great feature to help people with upgrades!!!

I voted my PC Rocks, athough I can't use Aero Glass, etc. My overall performance score is a 1 because of my integrated graphics. But, given that I don't care about Aero Glass, etc., and that I like Vista better than XP, well my computer rocks on Vista--see sig for my specs. :flowercool:

Znod... you realise that you could get a g'card for £50 which would rate at around 4.5 in the performance ratings!

Are you saying a PCMCIA card? I only have a mini slot. But, otherwise please explain. My machine is a laptop with integrated graphics.

yeah, thats what i was wondering, his system looked like a laptop to me, since it has a pentium M...

contact dell to see if you can get an upgrade on it, then the hard part is actually finding a laptop video card...

I have searched Dell on my machine, and I don't think the deal is doable internally without sort of rebuilding the machine. I'd love to hear otherwise though.
