Help, Malware Alarm 2.1

Malware Alarm 2.1 (Not Vista Related)

Hi there, a friend of mine was browsing the Internet and has been telling me over instant messaging that he has been bombarded with popups from a program called Malware Alarm 2.1. Now I told him to download an antispyware program to get rid of it, but he says that it has made no difference. Just for the record, I will be going down to see his PC tomorrow and would like some advice on what sounds like a very nasty trojan that has infected his system.

I've researched this program and is actually classed as adware/spyware itself.
You should do whatever you can to remove this, it has been said that it is difficult to remove but do whatever you can.

Then I recommend you install Ad-Aware SE Personal (not Ad-Aware 2007 as it is not very realiable as a new product), SpyBot - Search & Destroy and AVG Free Edition.

From the Ad-ware 2007 site... It is not Vista compatible.

is recommended to use and REMOVE MalWare Alarm 2.1. (Works well in Vista also.)

When I said that I meant for XP but I know about the Vista issues, I just stick with SE Personal.

Thanks guys. This PC was a lot worse than I thought it was. I am running a spybot check on the machine as we speak and has picked up hundreds of spyware I still have to run AVG and adware removal tool.

I will also try MRT

I removed it, it took a couple of hours though. Ad-Aware worked best as it picked up even more than AVG and Spybot did and that was after I had ran the check with the other 2.

MSRT never removed the software though.

Glad to hear, I do prefer Ad-Aware SE than 2007 as the detection rates are much higher.
