Windows Update Software 7.0.6000.381

Seems that this update is not being installed. Recommend that everybody check and see.

Windows Update Software 7.0.6000.381

You should have the following error code: 0x80010108

This is listed as CRITICAL.

Quote:
For no obvious reason windows update failed trying to install the windows
update software, version 7.0.6000.381.

i went through all of the basic steps of clearing update history and
download folders, and retrying. it just crashed right off the bat.

In order to fix it I had to uncheck using Microsoft update to download
additional updates for other products, then turning around and telling
windows update to download additional updates. it then takes you to a web
site to download Microsoft Update, once installed and the system rebooted,
everything is back to normal...

There's going to be a lot of stuck vista systems.... Windows update will be
rendered non-functional and will not be able to download any further updates
until it is fixed. Operators will have to go through this routine to fix it.

I have not tested this... but will be shortly... will post back with my results.

Found several solutions: None work... reason: I can no longer VALIDATE my version of Vista.
so as to DL and install v.2 of MSI.

I recieved this update without my knowledge, Windows Update normally notifies me on new updates to download and install.
But when I went to shut down Vista, it said it was configuring updates...I was thinking what updates?
You didn't tell about any updates to download let alone install.

But after looking back at the update history I looked up this mystery update but just found it to be a update for Windows Update itself.

The thing I'm confused about though is why did it just download and install itself without telling me?

Angry Windows Genuine Advantage suffers worldwide outage

Windows Genuine Advantage suffers worldwide outage, problems galore
By Ken Fisher | Published: August 25, 2007 - 11:44AM CT

Quote:
Late last night we started receiving reports from readers experiencing problems with Windows Genuine Advantage authentication. Users of both Windows XP and Windows Vista were writing to say that they could not validate their installations using WGA, and one user even said that his installation was invalidated by the service.

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...ms-galore.html

Quote:
If you attempt a validation and it fails, your install may be marked as non-genuine, which could lead to several annoyances. First things first, do not reboot a Windows machine that has been marked as non-genuine. Once you do so, you will lose functionality and the Aero interface. It would be best to wait until this problem has been resolved.

I have just re-Validated... this was a PRIORITY ...
if you were 'COUNTERFITTED' try again.
you do have to REBOOT to have it counterfit go away.

Then suggest you make a FULL - COMPLETE registry backup.. in a secret place.

Ref: version 7.0.6000.381.
Was uploaded to my system overnight as well ( successfully). Weird -- I am not configured to update automatically. So much for security. So far no problems I can see.

I called my daughter up. She updated all our three Vista computers and said there's no problem whatsoever. I'll be home soon, I hope, and I'll check it out. I trust her though, she's good with computers.

I was notified and posted at 5:15 PM my time. Once I verified it worked.

Part of the problem was It made no difference how you had your system set.
IT DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED .381, I had the install on 7-30-07,11:59pm and was A OK, so the bad batch of install was corrupt to me. I have repatched, and re validated. one of MILLIONS that it happened to... something as best I can find, depend on the updater your using... I am beta testing the NEW installer. that might be why....
No Idea..
but those interested can go to: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\SelfUpdate
and check to see why you rec'd the .381 files or if you have them.

Doing some checking in the path:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\SelfUpdate
if you have any .mum files other than 7.0.6000.381.mum (3) ea.
I had the .374 mum files and the .381 mum files..
simply delete the others... this is part of the problem which triggered the Counterfeit ....

I still have the failure to install correctly, listed in the updates. but I know they are there.

I'm sure MS will not tell what happened, but many many ppl were effected.

(It also is known that those folks who did not REBOOT did not see the CONTERFEIT signature).
