Cable Select???

If i jumper the drive for cable select, what is this doing?

Lets IDE drives run as master or slave based on which 2 drive cable connector they're plugged into... End plug is master, Middle plug is slave.

Cable select is used by many mfgers like Compaq.

The cable select IDE cable is not the same as a regular one.

Wire #28 is punched out (open to ground).

The system (supporting cable select) them assigns it as master or slave.
