| Lets IDE drives run as master or slave based on which 2 drive cable connector they're plugged into... End plug is master, Middle plug is slave.

| Cable select is used by many mfgers like Compaq. The cable select IDE cable is not the same as a regular one. Wire #28 is punched out (open to ground). The system (supporting cable select) them assigns it as master or slave.
