CD Tray opens By Itself!

My Son called me the other day and complained about his CD tray opening by Itself. Sure enough I took a look and thats what It doe's. No ghost In the house I hope, He has an old Dell 2400. He needs this computer for college, And I would like to fix It for him( Love my Boy!) Any Ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like fun, i would just and buy a new drive they are cheap now adays.

Does it do this in safe mode or the BIOS as well?

I have seen some malware do this behaviour.

Run anti virus software if you have it, could be a virus playing tricks on you!

I remember a few years ago someone send me a program and everytime you clicked on it your cdrom drive would open. Think it was called cupholder.

Are you sure that's not an automatic cup holder? Those old Dell's came standard with those, I think.

The article refers to some code that can be added to an application to invoke this behaviour. You need to reveiw the applications you have installed and running on your system to determine which one is resulting in the behaviour. Once you have determined which one it is, you can disable it and the behaviour will no longer continue.
