I've been using a Sony CRX-145 for almost 5 years , its slow, but very reliable!
On my second puter, I'm using a new Benq for almost 3 months, so far so good...

If you are going for CD-RW, there is no one better then Lite-On, especially considering their price.

For DVD+/-RW I would go with the ND-3520A. I actually just picked another one up on monday and its fantastic. Considering it is $50 at newegg, I don't know if putting $30 into a CD-RW is worth it.
