Change from MSI K8N NEO4 to Asus A8N-E problems

Hi everybody, and a merry Christmas.

I have had a lot of problems sins I made the mistake and bought a MSI K8N NEO4 motherboard, BSOD, powerdowns and just a very unstable pc.
I have tested my RAM and my GFX, also at a friends place, and everything worked just fine, so I bought an Asus A8N-E motherboard, and installed everything, but everytime I try to boot, I get a BSOD, and I have found out that I forgot to uninstall the LAN drivers, as the MSI have two buildin LAN cards, and the Asus only one, so I tried to enter Windows in safemode without LAN support, but everytime Windows try to load I get A BSOD...Why????
I was under the impresion that there was no driver loaded, when you load into Windows in safemode, without LAN support?

Anybody have a god advise?

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Edition
AMD Athlon64 3500+ Winchester

Forgot some info.
I have made another Win XP Pro-SP2 install on a different HD, and everything works like a charm, but I would really be greatfull if someone is able to help me with my problem, as I really would like to get into my "old" Windows, with all my personal tweaks

XP has a hardware layer that 9x doesn't. You can't take your old drive and connect it to a new board and expect it to "just work". You will need to do a repair install so Windows will be aware of your new board/chipset. NIC drivers are NOT the only thing that can cause a BSOD. The chipset drivers are what's causing your problem.

Boot with your XP CD. Proceed to install. Do NOT choose the repair option the first time you see it. That will put you in the recovery console, which will not help you. Let it scan for existing Windows installations, and THEN choose your original installation (it should be the first one listed, but that will depend on your system). Let it repair that, and you should be good to go.

Essentially, it will reinstall Windows with the proper drivers for your new hardware. You will need to run Windows Update when you're done as the original Windows files will be reinstalled. You will probably have to reactivate Windows because of the significant hardware changes. Good luck and report back.

HI kryten100

It's the same chipset, an Nforce 4 Ultra, but it looks like the onboard sound and LANcard are not the same, so I think I will have to install my old MSI motherboard again, to be able to remove these drivers.

A friend of mine has just done the same,(same motherboards as mine) with no problems, only I forgot to remove the drivers, as I was told there were the same, my mistake.

I just don't understand why I'm not able to boot into safemode without LAN support, and still get a BSOD, I was under the impression, that no drivers was loadet, when you enter safemode?

There are different flavors of the nForce 4 platform. Enough to make a difference to XP. Save yourself some time and do the repair install as described above. You'll save yourself lots of grief.

Have just tried to make the repair, but after the reboot, it stops in the windows installation at 34 minutes left, and stay there forever.

Now I'm simply going to make a backup of my importent files, and make a fresh install.

Thanks for your help.
