chkdsk runs with every start up

error: Diskeeper can not run because an auto chkdsk has been scheduled.

So you reboot the machine and chkdsk runs and finds no errors. In order to clear this problem I ended up doing this:

1. click on your start menu and open the run dialog.
2. type "cmd" and return (note: dont enter quotes)
3. Next type "fsutil dirty query d:"
4. If the return message indicates that the volume is dirty go to step 5
5. Next type "chkdsk d: /f /x"
6. After that finshes repeat step 3.
7. If it is no longer dirty then reboot and you should notice no more chkdsk.

And if it is still dirty, run chkdsk with a /r flag. That runs a longeer 5 step chkdsk process that should clear a dirty flag if what Bofinn suggests does not.

I ran /r and it didn't fix it. I upgraded this machine and 3 weeks later Windows blew up. I starting to suspect this laptop's hard drive may be going soon...

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

Just this past weekend I had to replace the hard drive in my father-in-law's system. It was constantly check disking one of the partitions on the drive. Ran a diagnostic on it and sure enough the drive came up as bad. Got a new drive and was successful in getting the bad drive copied over. If he would have left that drive in two more weeks I would have predicted complete lost of all data on the drive. It took over 10 hours to move the data over due to that drive being in so bad of shape.

I warned the lady her drive might be failing but so far no errors have been found. I'll boot from a PC Doctor for ThinkPad CD and test the drive to make sure.

If chkdsk /r didn't clear it, then I also suspect that drive is failing.
