In the course of doing more troubleshooting the floppy drive problem on my cusl2, I have discovered that I can format a HD diskette for 720k, but it won't let me format it for 1.44mb. If I try to format for 1.44 I get a message telling me that there is no disk in the drive or the drive door is open, or it will tell me that the diskette is of the incorrect capacity or possibly damaged?

Help!!

Sounds like a gone bad floppy drive! Do you have another computer to try it in?

What I have tried

Thanks for the replies. Here is what I have tried all only to end with failure:

-Two new floppies
-New floppy ribbon
-Installed floppies into another computer (worked)

In the bios, it is set to 1.44.

In case you didn't know here is what I can do with the floppy as it operates now:

I can read a diskette that already has been formatted and written to. I can delete files off the disk in the suspect drive. I can copy files from the hard drive to the diskette. The only thing I can't do is format any diskettes for 1.44mb. But now get ready for this; I can format a 1.44 mb diskette for 720k.

I am almost ready to use the board for a paper weight.
