Question

I have (2) 20.5gig, 7200rpm, ATA66, WD HD on my primary controler (with the intel ata drivers installed) and anytime my D: drive has not been accessed for a while, when I use a program that access's the D: drive such as windows explorer it takes a while for the window to open as if the D: drive was spun down. It takes a few seconds then I hear a click and the drive spin then the explorer window will open. Is it normal for a master and a slave to spin down independantly and should the D: drive spin down when the rest of the system is fully awake. I should also include that I am using win98se, with bios 1006.001

Check your MoBo BIOS settings under:

POWER > Power Management.

AND

POWER > Hdd Power Down

If, using Win9x or alike, check your "Power Management" settings:

(For Example)
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Power Management

Good Luck.
