| Do you use Nec firmware from Herrie? I have a NEC 2500A with firmware 1.07. But i know that many people use Herrie's firmware http://www.herrie.org/ His 1.07 beta 4 is very popular because of "Bit Setting" option wich is very nice

| I tried a couple of them on my NEC 1300 but I'm hesitant to use them over a longer period of time. Reading all the posts in that forum and from himself I gather he has a lot of questions himself about what means or does what. Especially concerning the writing strategy. I hate to trust my valuable data to a drive with a firmware that is made or rebuild with straws... It might work. It might not work. Who is to say. All his firmwares will remain beta until NEC embraces them. That will never happen. Problem with firmware for burners is that problems could surface on the longer run or you may not detect them right away. The damage is allready done then because you can't simply reflash it. The DVD was allready written. Best bet if you want to use them is to burn a couple, scan the media and see if there are any problems. If they are okay, you should be good to go with that series of empty DVD's!!

| Yes i agree with you. Im only afraid of DVD writing quality. People at CDfreaks forums say that this 1.07 beta 4 give more DVD quality writing in most media, and the Bitsetting option is great! Will Nec do a firmware update with this option? Maybe not... that's why im thinking in this Herrie firmware. Well... i will search a bit more...
