| DVD Burner Question I made a recent mistake and ordered two Samsung 22X DVD burner instead of only one. We shoot a lot of digital video and make copies for multiple family members. Since the drives were so cheap would my burn time be reduced if I used one drive to read and one drive to burn? Is there any compromise in quality? Any past experience would be helpful. | Re: DVD Burner Question A better idea, since you are making multiple copies, would be to get burning software that can write from a file on the hard drive to two burners at once. Nero Burning ROM, part of the full Nero package, can do that, and I'd imagine there are other programs that can as well. I've found that two copies can be created that way with no discernable difference in burn/verify time whatsoever, compared to burning one copy at a time. Also, copying on the fly from one drive to the other increases the risk of coasters, if some other process going on in the computer were to at times cause the read data stream to fall far enough behind the write data so as to exceed the buffering that is designed into the process. | Re: DVD Burner Question As ctal says on the fly burning increases risk of lower quality burns or coasters. From my own experience 8x burn speed even with fast drive and media gives better results. My samsung drive also produces better results on +R media. |
