| I recently upgraded my system and just about everything is working now. There are only a couple of problems I am currently having. My dvd play comes back choppy. The sound is ok it seems though, at least usually. My other problem is my cdr doesn't record. It gets right to the recording phase and then just stops doing anything and if I try to close out the program it will freeze up. I'm not sure if these problems are related or are seperate issues. Here is a list of some of my system that could apply. Win98 Creative DVD 5x encore with dxr2 (no irq conflicts) Mitsumi 4x8 CDR w/ adaptec software CUSL2 1006a P3 1 GHz 256 mb micron pc133 If there is anything else you need to know about my system let me know. Any ideas on what is wrong and/or how to fix would be appreciated.

| Make sure that DMA is checked for the DVD drive in the device manger and try unchecking it for the CD burner. I hope this helps.

| My device manager doesn't even show an option for dma in it. I checked the ata companion and it shows the dvd as dma mw-2 and the cdr as dma mw-1 for the current transfer modes. I thought I read something somewhere before about with this board, dvd's need to have udma. If this is the case, is it true for cdr's as well? If it is then perhaps that is my problem and I just need to go out and upgrade these two.

| The reason you don't see DMA is because you have the Intel ATA drivers installed. These will detect DMA for you automatically. I think that if you uninstall these drivers, your problems will be fixed. To do this, go into control panel and go to Add/Remove programs. Uninstall the Intel ATA drivers. When this is done and the computer is restarted, go back into device manager and check DMA for the DVD drive, and the hard drive. Make sure your CD-RW works before you check DMA for it. If it works, and you would then like to see if DMA works for it, then do so. I hope this helps you!

| Well by doing this I got the cdr to work now by not having dma checked. The dvd playback is still the same though. By removing the intel drivers, does that mean that I can no longer have ata100 support though? If so is there a way to reinstall them and keep the same dma settings? Thanks for the help so far.

| If DVD playback is still the same, then try updating MPEG-2 cards drivers, and make sure the software you are using supports the card. About the ATA100, I believe that it will still operate at ATA100 speed, but I am not sure.

| Ok, I think that unless drivers are hidden away somewhere for special people I have the latest out for my card. I might just end up getting a new dvd anyway. I've seen some pretty cheap ones now that are faster. Guess they are all cheap compared to what I payed for mine 2 years ago. I've heard that decoder cards can actually slow down performance on faster systems so I probably won't even bother with one now. Btw, is there any way to check about the ata100 on my system?

| Yeah, I upgraded mine and now it works too. Thanks for the help. Btw, I just bought a new pioneer 16x dvd player and now it works fine too. I think my other one was just not up to date enough to run on this system.
