DVD ROM in PIO Mode - Help!

I have had a LiteOn DVD ROM drive alone on my primary IDE channel for a year or 2 and it has bee working fine... until today. An app I use regularly warned me that the drive was running in PIO mode. I checked device manager and Nero info to confirm and and it is. See screenprint. I checked in the BIOS and it is seen as DMA2 and set to 'Auto' as is my DVD burner, which is running in DMA2 mode in windows. Why is this DVD ROM running in PIO mode and how do I get it back to DMA2?
TIA

Uninstall the IDE channel it's on in the Device Manager and reboot. Upon detection it should automatically re-install and be in DMA mode.

It will keep going back to PIO mode if you feed it bad media or if the drive's laser is going bad.

"...if you feed it bad media..." AH HA! This happened right after I put a beat up Netflix disc in it, and it had a hard time reading it. Thanks for the info. I'll try your suggestion.
