The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

Years ago they were a bane for me. Not sure if that has changed that much. Here's what I did remember, disks would disappear and resizing with a partitioner was dangerous if even possible.

I have noticed that you can resize dynamic disks from within Windows (like the os called vista) Disk Management. I believe dynamic disks with Windows will allow software RAID as well.

That was my understanding. My laptop has 2 HD bays and sometime I would like to add another drive in a sudo RAID0 array. The HD is the definate bottle neck in the system. I am not sure how this compares to an array with a built in RAID controller. I would be interested in hearing how dynamic disks measures up in comparison.

There is not one single difference in performance. A dynamic disk is more about how you manage data volumes. For example, you can have a dynamic disk that is used over the network and then later need to add more storage space. You can simply add another disk and add the new hard drive volume to the dynamic disk.

There is no advantage that a normal end user would gain you may lose using such.
