Error with ATAPI devices.... help!

ok i checked my events log and i found something disturbing.

The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.
The device, \Device\CdRom1, has a bad block.

i have no clue what this means exactly, but i take it its trying to say that both my DVD and burner are reading incorrectly. I recently took my dvd player apart and put it back together, but i didnt touch the burner. I tried to install a game and i got a CRC error with the CD telling me that the files cant be copied.

I also recently had problems with my floppy drive. no matter what the floppy is, new or used, i always get a message saying its not formatted. when i do format and try to use it again, it tells me to format it again..... keeps going on and on. on a different system after i format it and i put in memtest86 on it, i could boot with the disk in my computer and load up memtest no problem, but according to windows the disk isnt formatted...... it doesnt make any sense. anyone know why i am having these reading problems with my CDRW, DVD, and floppy? i am using asus cables, but i am thinking about trying out a new cable soon. I just dont understand how both ATAPI drives can fail, as well as a floppy....... something is fishy. anyone know of any good diagonostic software for CDroms and DVD drives?

Can this be the work of the AGP/PCI bug in a p4pe? i never ever had this issue with my old P4pe prior to this one i am using now. i'd appreciate any feedback u guys can give. thanks!

ps. my burner and dvd are over 4 years old. floppy is aroun 4 years old as well, but at as frequently used as the dvd and burner.

I do not have a "real" answer for you, but let me offer a couple suggestions and bump your question at the same time.

My guess is if you have the CD drives on the same IDE channel and the drive you are having problems with is configured as master, the issues with it will "trickle down" to the rest of the IDE channel. (Perhaps your DVD drive did not survive the "operation.")

Regarding your floppy drive, you might check to make sure that the connector was inserted fully. Without a good connection, they can behave in unpredictable ways. Good luck!
