| had my system running for about a week before brand new hard drive took a dump. finally got replacement and reformated ect..... well now my e drive(sony48x) will not always load programs without giving me errors and quiteing.if i put disk in f(plextor) it works without a hitch.it happened on several disks so it isn't a disk problem.i tried everything at stock speeds still does it.i have the sony set up as master and the plextor as secondary on the secondary channel.everythings pluged in well and i even tried another drive in sony's location that did same thing.i loaded the 815 drivers off the asus cd just as i did the first time.what blows my mind is that it was fine before the reformate. should i try to reinstall the 815 drivers or may this screw things up since i already have alot on my drive?

| You should install some newer versions of the Intel drivers (check homepage). Don't know if that fixes you're problem though. Could be as simple as a bad flat-cable. You could try replacing that. Also check your bios if your drives are detected correctly. Did you install the ATA drivers by any chance? If so, uninstall them because they cause problems for a lot of people.

| I have not successfully installed two CD drives on a secondary controler. I always had to put one on the primary and the second on the secondary. Somehow they always conflicted (Sony48x or Creative52X with a HP CD-RW). Try seperating them and I'll bet they will both work. |

| It's always best to put cd and cdrw on different channels IMHO..... I think I read that at Ahead's site (Nero)...

| Try it and benchmark to see, I have my cdrw master on Ide2 with a zip100 as slave, WD 300bb master on Ide1 with 52x cdrom as slave and get 22,000 with sandra, I would put my fastest cdrom with the HD as I did, bios runs it at dma2 (ata33) it doesn't seem to hurt hd performance at all...

| On the Primary, got my ATA100 40GB Western Digital as Master and Creative 52X (was Sony 48X) as Slave. The HP CR-RW is on the Secondary. In Sandra's hardrive benchmark, the scores are way above an ATA66 so it doesn't seem to slow down the performance. One interesting thing is that Western's 20GB drive (now my kid's) gave slightly higher performance that the 40GB with exactly the same setup. |
