External slimline DVD drive for movie viewing

Hi all,

I just bought an Acer 8200 notebook.

It comes with a "matshita dvd-ram uj-850s" DVD drive and much to my chagrin DVD software programs such as AnyDVD, do not allow me to play DVD movies from multiple regions.

There is no firmware for this drive and I would not really want to flash it for fear of damaging it.

My only other option is to buy an external DVD drive, which the programs such as AnyDVD may work on, or flash the drive.

Can anyone recommend an external DVD drive for this, preferably a slimline drive, which I could buy in Australia, and definitely could use to play DVD movies from multiple regions?

Thanks

Dazz

Is that controlled by the dvd player or the software? Try using powerdvd and see if you can play them. You don't really want to buy a new dvd player only to find out that it was just the software.

I have DVD player software installed and I tried to use separate multi-region DVD software to get it to work (I've done this before).

Doesn't work with some newer drives as the manufacturers have closed off the loophole that AnyDVD and other programs used to get around DVD region crap.

Is DVD Region+CSS Free among the programs you have tried?
