Angry Formatting Hard Drive

Reformated hard drive trying to put Windows on it and I get this ( If you have HPFS or NTTS installe on your hard drive, you will need to create an MS-DOS boot partition to set up window's.) I've used fdisk and it tell me DOS Partition already exists and when I try to set to active it tells me it is already set to active. HELP PLEASE.... Can't get to the cd rom drive to load windows... Thanks KB7FXJ (In Alaska)

Question

Woah... slow down. What version of windows are you trying to install, what are your system specs? What filesystem are you trying to install on? (NTFS? FAT? FAT32?)

EDIT: When you wrote "NTTS," I assume you meant NTFS. Am I correct?

It's been a while since I used Fdisk, but that DOS partition you say you already have must be an extended DOS partition, and I assume the primary partition was NTFS? Was that the file system you were using? There is a way to delete Non-DOS partitions with Fdisk, just don't remember the exact procedure but I know it's possible as I've done it before. You need to delete it and then create a primary DOS partition or logical dos drive, make it active and format it.

Fdisk option 4 will display the partition info so you can see what you need to do...

How did you have an NTFS partition with WiMe (read as: "Why Me")?

WinMe is based off of the Windows 9x kernel, and does not support (without 3rd party software) NTFS drives.

That's a standard error message when there isn't a dos partiton present.
